Making Friends

So, time for an EVE Online update. I promise that this one will be shorter.

Before I get into what I've been up to, I thought I'd mention something in case I inspire anyone to try the game. First of all, they have both a Windows client and a Mac client (system requirements). Secondly, if you want to try it out, let me know. I can give you a 3 week free trial. It's better for you because you get an extra week over the normal trial, and better for me because if you end up buying the game, I get a free month added to my account!

Last time I mentioned that I was interested in starting into the epic storyline. I did this, and recently managed to complete it (although I needed a little help on a couple missions). This storyline was 50 missions long! That's a pretty impressive length for any computer game, but particularly in the genre of MMOs. Anyway, the storyline was interesting, and had fairly good monetary rewards. I was able to purchase all the expensive learning skills I'd talked about last time, and right now I'm sitting pretty with a 17 million ISK balance (not counting assets).

I'm still focused on learning skills for now, but that'll change in another 3.5 days when I'll finish up the ones I've been working on. At that point I'll be shifting over to work on better skills to fight and fly my ship. I'll also be looking at training to fly a larger ship so I can take on some tougher challenges.

The other thing I did recently was join a corporation. I hooked up with a couple people from one of the gaming forums that I keep up with. They're a pretty casual corporation, and one that's not particularly large. So, depending on how things go, I may either stay with them or move on to something bigger. For now, I haven't had a chance to get much involved, but perhaps this weekend I'll participate in a mining operation or something (likely flying security, since I don't have much in the way of mining skills).

I'm pretty happy to get hooked up with a corporation, as that's really useful in helping to find interesting things to do in the game.  Corporations are like guilds in other MMOs, but... much more. Perhaps I'll talk about corporations next time.

...see? Look how short I kept it... Wink
