Braaaaaaiiiiiins...

Well, tonight MrsKheldar and I played another game of Last Night on Earth. Mark couldn't make it over, so it was just the two of us. She was playing the heroes this time while I took over the zombies.

This time we were playing the advanced rules. This adds an additional 20 cards to both the zombie and hero card decks. It also means a number of additional scenarios. The scenario we randomly drew was Escape in the Truck. There's a truck parked in the center of the board. The heroes need to find the keys and find the gas and fuel up the truck. Then there needs to be two heroes at the truck at the end of their turn in order to win. The zombies win by killing off 3 of the 4 heroes (so that they don't have the required 2 to escape) or running out the clock (15 turns).

It was pretty crazy! Some of the advanced cards are pretty interesting. MrsKheldar actually got one hero who is perfect for quickly searching for items. On top of that, she started about as far from any of the zombie spawn points as possible. In addition, I totally left her alone and sent my zombies after the other characters. Fortunately for me, we both completely forgot about his special ability until a number of turns into the game, so he didn't get to use his super searching ability at first. At that point I started sending some zombies his way.

Somewhere in there, through the help of a pair of special cards, I managed to take out one of the heroes and turn him into a special zombie (faster and harder to kill).

However, shortly after that happened, the good searching guy managed to find both the gas and the keys to the truck, and everything went crazy.

All of the heroes and the zombies started rushing to the center of the map where the truck was parked. The hero with the gas managed to get to the truck. Another hero was just one space away. The third was a little farther back, but had a clear shot with a decent move roll of getting to the truck (but technically only two heroes were needed to win). All the hero with the gas can needed to do was spend the next turn filling the car, then at the end of the turn they'd win!

However, it was my turn next. I was able to get three zombies onto the truck, and a whole huge horde was right behind them. The dice were rolled and... the hero went down, the gas and keys getting lost in the scuffle. Sad(

The last two heroes headed for a nearby building to desperate search to see if they could find another set of keys and another can of gas, but time was running out, and the horde was closing in. They went down fighting.

It was an interesting game. There's definitely a difference between playing on the zombie side and the hero side. On top of that the tactics are definitely different between this scenario and the next. MrsKheldar prefers the zombie side for now (a little less stressful, and more reactive than the hero side), but that's fine, because I think both are interesting to play.
