More Braaaaaiiins

Tonight we played Last Night on Earth with 3 other people at work. It was me playing the zombies against the four of them with the heroes. It was an amazing game! The objective this time was for the heroes to find dynamite and gas cans and blow up three of the spawn points where zombies enter the map.

The game started off very lopsided. I had a really horrible start, and by the end of my first turn (the zombies move first) I had only 1 zombie on the board. Ouch! Normally I'd have had about an average of 7. So, the heroes had nice free reign. Plus the had the hero who's really good at searching. Oh, and they got really lucky and one of them started the game with a stick of dynamite! Yeah...

Well, they went straight to work, and within a pretty short period of time, they'd blown up two of the spawning points. Only one more to go. They'd actually gotten ahold of the third stick of dynamite, and the hero holding it was racing for the final spawn point. With a little bit of luck I was able to intercept them on the spawn point itself, and managed to take them down (which discards all the items).

Well, they did get a brand new hero to replace the dead one, but they still needed to find another gas can or stick of dynamite. They went to work, but now I had a bit of momentum on my side. I started swarming them, and managed to drop two more of them (which were replaced, but in exchange I got to have a "super" zombie, so it wasn't all bad). Things were looking pretty grim for them when they managed to pull out two more sticks of dynamite on the same turn!

So, they split the party and sent each pair towards a separate spawn point. At first they figured that both teams would have a decent chance to complete the job. Then I moved some zombies in, and the team they thought would take care of the job first got cut off and jumped on by a bunch of zombies. Well, that left it up to the second team. Then as they were nearing their goal I sprung an ambush and was able to plant a number of new zombies right in the building they were entering. That got them surrounded, and likely in huge trouble.

But then, the first team managed to use a fire extinguisher to push back a large horde, left one team member behind to distract the zombies while the other one raced for the spawn point with the dynamite. With a baseball bat in one hand and a chainsaw in the other (yeah, yeah, work with me here) he cleared a lone zombie out of the way, and with a minimum of effort, chucked the dynamite in the pit, winning the game.

It was quite a blast, and very much a back and forth game with a very exciting finish. Lots and lots of fun.

Re: More Braaaaaiiins

I swear you should write a gaming magazine in the genre of the fishing magazines! (You know --I was on the stream in Montana and had a 16 inch cutthroat on the line but had to play it out for and hour before he got under the log and broke the line.)  I had to read every word and enjoy it! Godd job story-teller! Big smile

Well, in this case it's pretty easy to tell and exciting story. This game really does a good job at creating tense and exciting moments. I'd say well over half of the games we've played (in addition to the games I've reported on here, we actually played 2 games with RaNae last weekend) had exciting back and forth type action. That makes it memorable and easy to write up.

Fishing though? Eh... pass. I'm not sufficiently interested. Smile

Sounds like a fun game - I might have to look for it.

I've been playing left 4 dead on the xbox - a bit of gory fun. =)  The board game would take out the viscerality (is that a word?) of the FPS and I might even get Tina to try it... maybe... rather unlike L4D which she doesn't care for.

Left 4 Dead is fun. I thought of that game when playing Last Night on Earth. It definitely goes for a B-movie feel instead of gory violence, so it might work really well. It's also a game that has a pretty decent luck factor, which can make it a good game for playing with someone who isn't super into strategy.

So tell me, why is it that you always win - well, almost always? Just lucky? Wink

Re: More Braaaaaiiins

Actually, I lost the game described here. I also lost one of the two games we played with RaNae. So, I'm at about 3 out of 5 for wins.

But yes, I am lucky. I actually gambled at Vegas and made a profit. (Which still isn't much when you're gambling with nickles.)
