Liquid nano-Glass!?!? true and cool!

nano-scal SiO2 as a coating!  crazy but true!  we should be seeing it all over the place in a few years unless they find something horribly wrong with it - which I doubt.

Interesting!  Sounds like it could have a huge ripple effect in many areas!

How do you get it off if it gets on you?

Very interesting. Technology is pretty amazing!

Well, it's only Silicon - which is UBEr common everywhere around us.  I can't think of any way it could have a deliterius effect.

... but that could be a result of m limited imagination Wink

Well, note the part near the beginning that says "almost pure silicon dioxide". It's the "almost pure" part that's the sticky point. It seems we're becoming more and more aware of various chemicals that were thought to be harmless that are actually causing medical problems with long term use.

My concern is that the more "antibacterial" our environment is, the weaker our immune systems become.  I'd probably never use it in my house just for that reason!

It says it is breathable--but I really don't want it coating my lungs!  Interesting about it being flexible as silicon dioxide wouldn't ordinarily be! But this sure is a thin layer!

I think the risk is worth getting a spray coating of that on the car instead of having to wax it repeatedly...

And the water and stain proofing of fabrics while retaining breathability... that's gotta be the big $$ on the front end of the development.  I'd definately want some on my tent! ... and boots... and sleeping bag...

Plus think of using it to treat framing timber - rot resistance for the deck or the lawn furniture.

We'll just have to see what happens - the development of silicon-based nano-bots... maybe not.  Si particulates being inhaled, I'd say that that would be the primary initial concern.would it be absorbed as a neutral element and processed out?  Or would it imbed and act like asbestos?  On such a small scale of particulate, how effective would common respiratory filters be?  Puzzled
