While on vacation I finished up three books. In order to make sure that I actually get these reviewed and onto my list, I think I'll just do quick review of all three of them together.
Excession by Iain M. Banks - I really enjoyed the last book I read by this author, so I was really looking forward to this one. Unfortunately, it really didn't grip me like the other one did. The story was kind of slow moving, and there were a number of parts that were overly confusing. I'll give this author another chance, and see what happens.
Mogworld by Yahtzee Croshaw - I really enjoyed this book a lot. It's a fantasy book that kind of runs with the idea that the characters are in a world that is being developed as an MMORPG game. It's got quite a lot of funny parts, and the author has a real talent for off the wall metaphors. The ending was very nicely done. I had a great time reading this.
The Stainless Steel Rat For President by Harry Harrison - This is one of a series of books in a sci-fi setting where the main character is a thief who has been recruited to work for the government. He solves problems, catches crooks, and generally saves the galaxy. It's written to be fast paced and humorous. The author's style of humor has never been particularly effective for me, but this book fell particularly flat for me. I think maybe because of having just read Mogworld, which really worked for me. Still, the story was a decent read.
