Almost time to leave

Sorry I missed my Monday roleplaying update. We did play, and in fact things went very well. Unfortunately, I got home later than usual and didn't have time to update. Then the last two days have been very busy, and now it's Thursday, and Mrs. Kheldar and I are leaving this afternoon to go visit her family for an extended weekend. So, I figured I'd better post an update now before I leave too long of a gap.

On Monday, Mrs. Kheldar wasn't feeling well, so she wasn't able to make it to the roleplaying session. However, everyone else was there, so we played anyway.

The group managed to find a contact for the notched ear "gang". They disguised themselves and proceeded to hire the group to steal some things from their own room. They then moved all their stuff to alternate rooms at the hotel and are planning on ambushing the men who come and break in. They'll then interrogate those men to determine additional details about who hired them for the attack that happened a few days earlier.

Then, in the evening, they met with the old man from the lamp shop. The meet went smoothly with not surprises on either side. In a very entertaining scene, they got ten answers from the man (one for each half of a bill they'd given him earlier). The language was all couched in terms of purchasing lamps, which made for some interesting answers that were open to some interpretation. He agreed to put them in contact with the suspect who'd mysteriously escaped from the British prison cell prior to the group arriving in Cairo.

So, the next day they made their way back to the lamp shop for the meet. Things seemed to be going well until they went in the back room and were ambushed by three men with guns. Brooky (the tough guy character in the group) was quick to react, but unfortunately inaccurate with his submachine gun, doing no significant damage. The group turned their attention towards the fight, when suddenly Natasha (the illusionist) was shot at from behind. Apparently someone had silently entered the shop behind them. The shots would have hit, doing significant damage, but Natasha luckily manage to catch some movement out of the corner of her eye and luckily ducked aside, barely avoiding the shots (I gave her an opportunity to dodge at the cost of one of her unspent character points).

We stopped there so that Mrs. Kheldar would have a chance to get in on the rest of things next time (which will be the week after next). Amazingly enough, we didn't get to any of the stuff I'd planned (partly because I completely forgot about a couple things that were scheduled to happen), and my players threw me a couple curve balls, but still I felt pretty confident in being able to handle things "off the cuff". Things went smoothly, and I actually felt really good about how things went. Perhaps I'm finally starting to settle in again after having taken such a long break from GMing.

In other news, I'm up early this morning, because it was supposed to snow very heavily over night, and I have to get in early to take care of some stuff at work. So, it figures that when I checked outside this morning there was no additional snow at all. Oh well, it gave me a chance to post an update and take care of a couple other things before we take off.

I'm definitely looking forward to vacation...
