The forum is now up and running on the new server. It's also running a newer version of the phpBB software.
Please let me know if you run into problems or if you find any missing features.
I'll be installing various mods and images packs over the next day or so.

mods, smilies, and avatars are in place now.
If you had a custom avatar you'll need to re-upload it.
Everything else should be in place.

One additional note... It appears that the server is properly sending out email now. That should mean that you can send emails to other users directly through the forum interface. Woo!

Well, supposedly you're avatar is still there because you weren't using a custom one. Despite that, your avatar shows up as a broken link for me just like everyone elses... Dunno, you might try reselecting it.
Yes, the forum feels about the same speed. The reason for this is that the major bottleneck for the forum is the bandwidth hit caused by various graphics and such that are used. Still, I can notice a slight improvement anyway. If you want to see a real speed improvement, go check out the wiki site: http://www.batishko.net/wiki/

Oh yes, this server will also be MUCH more stable. And tomorrow I'll be picking up a UPS to keep it going. It also will auto-reboot itself after a powerloss.

I noticed the broken link when I first logged on, but on a hunch, I right-clicked the image and picked vewi image (or something) and it popped right up - yours too.

2.8GHz P4 with 256 MB RAM and a 160 GB SATA hard drive. That's pretty much the high points.

Man... it really seems like my upload speed on my DSL has been painfully slow lately. I wonder if something is wrong. This has been happening since before I put in the new server... Maybe I should hunt down some benchmarking software and verify that I'm getting the bandwidth that I paid for. :-k

assuming a working browser, there are a large numbr of pages around that let you test your connection speed. Google connection bandwidth test.

Well, I just did a bandwidth test from my desktop machine. Here are the results:
Download speed: 696 kbps (about what I'd expect)
Upload speed: 24 kbps

Grr... time to send a note to the phone company and my ISP and figure out what's going on.

Hey! Lookie that! I power cycled my DSL modem, and now I'm getting an upload speed of 384 kbps! Much better.
Now the new forum actually seems faster.
