Anyway, as Kheldar is aware (and maybe a few others of you as well, but I don't recall), I have come up with a concept for an online graphic novel (it's not funny, so "comic" seems a poor term to use) that I just think is cooler than snot. I may have to post the synopsis of what i have for you all to say yay or nay to.
I advertised a while ago on a few locations for an artist, but really didn't expect much. Didn't hear much, either. No surprise. Anyway, I continued to dable with scripting and all for the fun of it, but figured it'd never go anywhere.
Now, however, I may just have found the artist. I thought I'd post some of what he's provided as samples. They're still lower standard than I'd hoped for, but he believes he can get high enough quality after a few months of hard practice to meet my needs, and I'm willing to give him the time. Anyway, let me know if you think this guy has a shot at it or not.

I think some of the links are broken. You'll have to let me know. With thsi connection, I may just be timing out...

I was able to see the pictures just fine.
You want to know what I think... Well...
No offense intended to the artist, since I know how much work it takes to actually crank out a halfway decent comic style...
...but I'm not overly impressed. His original art is pretty mediocre. What's there that looks fairly good is drawn directly from other pieces of artwork (which by the way is an EXCELLENT way to get better, particularly if you find a style that you like).
To be honest, I think I could do as good as what he's got there. Of course the difference is that I know I couldn't stick with it for the amount of time that he's offering for both the initial practice and the final implementation.
And in the end, that's what will matter. See what it looks like in a couple months. If he makes it through the couple months and he's actually got some good improvement on his original work (make sure and look for the original stuff in a couple months), then I'd say you've got a real winner.
It really is all about being willing to put in the effort to improve. I think just about anyone can be a competant (though perhaps not inspired) artist. You just have to be willing to do it over and over hundreds of times until your hand learns to do it without effort.
I'll be interested to see where this goes. Keep us posted...

Yeah, kind of what I was thinking.
The art where he immitates someone else is pretty good. So my thinking is I give him the few months. If he sticks with it and can show me he's actually put in all that effort, I know he'll have the stick to it nature I need and not flake out. If he shows the improvement I expect from it (and he's already making visible progress) then it may just hit the level I want. it all depends on whether he puts in that several months or not.

Have you asked for specific art drawn? Not just samples he's done before? You know, give him homework and see how he interprets what you give him.
I agree with Andrew's assessment. The anime figures he seems to be able to reproduce. It's the originality of a composure that will stretch you. See what kind of feeling he can put into something he can't copy.

Hmm... Good thought. I'll have to see what I can cook up.
