What people want in roleplaying

I stumbled across a sheet of paper today that had a bunch of notes on answers I'd apparently collected from my players sometime during the couple of years after college before our college roleplaying group split. I thought others might enjoy hearing the details on a couple of our board members.

Sareth: heroic/antiheroic, exploits that shape world and are remembered, *character development*, development where see improvement, mix of action/intrigue, have active backdrop, dramatic turnaround, mix of character goals and GM push, no preference on magic, don't care about point values, like group interaction, rules can get in way, Legend, Guardians of the Flame, a little time to jump in, narrow and focused

Aldernon: chance to do stuff you couldn't normally do, fantasy (fairly important), distinct line between good guys and bad guys, like high power (affect world), broad and general, long term development, see obvious character improvement, experience/equpment gain equally important, *interaction in group*, cooperative group, enjoys leading roup, character: mysterious magic user, strong/tricky things, enjoy walking line between good/evil, mix action/intrigue, like some micromanagement (calculator my be excessive), enjoy character goals, lots of magic (not real powerful except character), magic doesn't have to mesh well, slightly high power, flexible rules unless know exact rule (could play with less), Guardians of the Flame, Thomas Covenant, common sense rule judgement, characters be "close", relative point value in group not important, character needs niche, middle earth or shadowworld (familiarity)

I wonder how much those preferences and interests have changed or stayed the same.

If anyone is interested, I also have Gordoth and Sarjenka's responses, as well as Rob's.

Honestly... Not much hsa changed. I still am very story-world shaking events oriented...

Veni, Vidi, Volo in domum redire.

Boy, I'd NEVER want to roleplay in an environment inspired by Thomas Covenant. [shudder!]

That's interesting insight.
