I just heard about this today - on my online radio channel broadcast.
Apparently there's a judicial panel that wants to rake in $$ by raising a song performance fee retroactively against all radio broadcasts on the internet - to be set in place May 15th. This will effectively kill internet radio broadcasting.
Over-the-air radio stations don't pay this fee, and satellite radio pays this fee, but at a much lower percentage.
If you value the ability to broadcast music over the internet, or just like your Yahoo, AOL, Pandora, RTN, or whatever music you stream over the internet, you'll want to contact your congressman about this.
You guys know me, I don't normally post this kind of thing, but I think that this is important.

I agree w/ you, very important and I"ve already signed the petition and written my congress men and senators.

Good luck with that. Don't want to throw a blanket on anyone's camp fire, but Clear Channel making inroads earlier this year into net media is almost as bad. Not only will it be more expensive for the broadcasters with the higher fees, but it will all sound the same too. My advice: support your local bands :supz: and contribute to NPR.
!there is no smiley with an eyepatch!
My favorite part is those smegging bimbytwat lowlifes in the music production industry got their hand slapped going for our wallets a few years ago and it didn't really cost them at all, now they are aiming lower and to the center with the blitz on royalty fees. Blame Sony Music, EMI, Universal Music Group, BMG, and Warner Music. Add into that the 8u11shit with rampant rootkits in the top 40...
Anyone who has been to my home knows I purchase a lot of media. Find a nice independent label, and let them know you appreciate them. I like Century Media...

Sorry, this is a topic of some interest for me. I tend to be a bit geared up over it. :drinkers: Time to have a beer and go to bed...

Beer in hand...
on a related note, this is somewhat from the other side but in the interests of corporate compliance I was forced to delete some 4 gigs of mp3s from a workstation in the Florida area. Any guesses how long that little adventure took from my workstation in Boise?
Holy Jesus the Jew! I think I must have been going through every switch in the enterprise...

Yoink... I've kept my MP3 collection dont to a minimal 1.3G at work. Enough to rescue with my 2G thumb drive in the situation arises. 8)
