Golden Anvil

Well, I guess I'd better get this post out before I get too far behind again and get forced to post another ramble (I think I can keep this one to only two topics!!!). We did play on Monday, but we got home a little late, and I've been busy since then.

As you might recall from last time, Eva got taken down in a fight with the bad guys...

Well, they made their way back to the hotel with Achmed (and the unconscious Eva) in tow without any real problems. They then got in touch with their British contact on the base and explained some of the situation (not revealing yet that there were traitors on the base who were going to be smuggling in explosives). Their contact agreed to send four men as backup, since the party had previously arranged for the one mercenary gang to do a hit on their hotel room (so that they could grab some of them and interrogate them for more details).

...is that I end up rambling about a variety of topics instead of staying focused. Ah well. Such is life. Want to know what I've been up to lately?

Let's see, my free time this week (you know, the time when I should have been writing nice posts for you guys) was pretty much spent playing Microsoft Flight Simulator. This game (yeah, yeah, the hard core fans would probably shoot me for using that term) has actually been entertaining me even beyond my expectations. I've had fun flying around all sorts of places I'm familiar with. I've enjoyed going through the tutorials and flight instructions, and I'm just now starting into some of the various missions.

Well, we played tonight, and things went pretty well. In particular, I think I firmly proved that I'm not playing favorites with my wife...

As you might recall, the last session was three weeks ago, and Mrs. Kheldar hadn't been able to make it. We stopped the session just as a fight was starting, and someone showed up in the room behind the group. Natasha had taken some gun fire, and burned off a character point to get a chance to roll a dodge.

Another long delay since I last posted. It's been a pretty rough week. We had another round of crunch time at work (we managed to get the beta out the door). Then I spent about 11 hours on Friday working on the seven day roguelike challenge with gauntman (that went pretty well, although we didn't make quite as much progress as we'd like). Saturday got all taken up with various errands and such.

However, today went pretty well, and I'm feeling a good deal refreshed.

Welcome to another long post. I guess that's what happens when I haven't updated regularly for a while...

Wow, 9 days since my last post! Some of that is excused because I was off on vacation (although I technically had internet access there, even if it was slow). Then I had the excuse of having to catch up with things after getting back from vacation. My only excuse after that can only be that we had a deadline at work on Friday, and we've got another this coming Wednesday. So, I've come home after some long days kind of tired out.

Just a couple of quick screenshots that I grabbed recently. Unfortunately, the ones I took of gauntman and I fighting this big ugly seem to have vanished into no where. Ah well. At least I got these two.

Well, as usually happens about once a year, I threw out my back on Sunday during the superbowl. No, I wasn't jumping up and down or anything crazy. Actually, I'd been feeling it coming on the last couple days, and it just decided to hit me then. So, I spent pretty much all Monday on my back on the couch. Tuesday I spent some time on the couch and some time working on my laptop, but had to go into work for a big meeting (then promptly came home again). Today I was able to put in almost a full day of work before coming home to give my back a rest. Hopefully tomorrow I should be mostly back to normal.

Yeah, yeah, it's been a while. Mrs. Kheldar suggested that perhaps I should tell you all what I've been up to since last time. Well, I'll give you three guesses...

a) I've been ballooning across Asia.
My computers exploded and I haven't been able to get online.
c) I've been playing Vanguard.

...ok, so perhaps you didn't need three guesses...

I have been enjoying the game though. I've been intending to take some screenshots, but I keep forgetting. I did get one though.

This is Khalder the dwarf warrior (someone already had the name Kheldar). He's on his horse riding out from the main Dwarf city of Bordinar's Cleft.

I finally got down to the used book store to cash in a couple dollar coupon (you get 10% of any purchase larger than a certain amount as a coupon for later use) before it expired. I also took down a half dozen books that I was ready to get rid of. I cam home with seven or eight books that manage to complete three different series that I've been holding off reading until I can finishing getting all the books.

Yikes! That means my stack of books to read has suddenly jumped from just a couple up to a dozen or so. Guess I'd better get cracking!

Oh yeah, and I played a bunch of Vanguard today. There's still a number of bugs that need to get worked out, but I'm still very much enjoying the game.
